  • Costa Rica Expectations and Surprises

    December 7, 2017

Costa Rica is completely different than I could have imagined.  The country is filled with hills indistinguishable from mountains.  San Jose is vast and expansive with few high rises sprinkled around and a traffic congestion that might rival Atlanta’s.  The people are approachable, hardworking, and genuine.  In Costa Rica, there is this can-do attitude that…

It is so great to be home! No matter where I’ve been or how much fun I’ve had, I always find myself unable to exhale fully until the flight tracker enters American air. I have returned to America still buzzing with residual caffeine from the amount of incredible coffee consumed on the trip. This caffeine…

  • And We Thought Georgia had Unpredictable Weather…

    November 27, 2017

Georgians often joke that our weather is having an identity crisis. Its not uncommon to go from a sunny 80 degrees on Monday to torrential downpour on Wednesday and a brisk 45 degree chill on Friday morning. While I am no stranger to changes in weather, I am a unfamiliar with packing for all those…

  • Who was Erasmus of Rotterdam and Why do I Appreciate Him?

    November 27, 2017

Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam (28 October 1466 – 12 July 1536) became one of Europe’s most famous and influential scholars for his work as a Catholic priest, social critic, and teacher. A self-called “citizen of the world,” Erasmus rose from meager beginnings to help define the humanist movement in Northern Europe. So, in 1987 when the European Community (EC)…

In just a few short weeks, I’ll be boarding my first flight to Central America and I barely speak 3 phrases in Spanish.  I’ve got my travel sized life all packed away in 3oz containers that fit haphazardly into a clear zip lock.  As I spend my last few weeks in Athens prior to departure, I’m sitting…

After three months in Europe I finally made it back home. I had an internship in Spain after my study abroad in Italy where I was able to continue my summer of learning about wine and wine grapes. It was an amazing experience but coming home has been the best part of my summer. Adjusting…

I spent three months in Europe this summer. During the month of May I was on the Grand Tour, a study abroad experience focused on the gardens and art of Europe. During June and July I backpacked around Europe with another UGA student. I think it’s really easy to romanticize travel, and oftentimes we create…

When preparing for a major trip, coming to terms with reality can be a fickle thing. It only really began to hit me as I packed my final belongings into my hiking backpack. I’ve got everything that I need for three months abroad in my pack, I hope. It’s really amazing how much you can…
