The collaborative nature of the Healthier Together project stands as an example for those striving to make rural communities healthier through improving access to resources needed to engage in physical activity, improving food policies and making healthier food more accessible. The partnership between UGA Extension, the College of Public Health and the College of Environment and Design has improved walking trails, added exercise equipment to local parks and provided signage so rural residents know how far they are walking between every day destinations. Kristin Gibson recently published a UGA Today carried press release highlighting this important partnership to highlight the important work and encourage other universities like ours to strive for similar collaborations to improve the lives of U.S. citizens and strengthen rural communities.
