Dr. Alexa Lamm wrapped up a two day workshop which brought hundreds of international scholars, students, and animal producers together in Houston, Texas as a part of the International Livestock Congress at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Numerous speakers shared the importance of audience segmentation, tailoring messages, and speaking to both the heart and the mind. Lamm emphasized during her talk that while the participants had all learned a lot about how to effectively communicate science that they need to keep in mind WHY they want to communicate about the science behind animal agriculture. She shared her own story of why the use of science in decision making is so important to her and her family and encouraged participants to do the same.
