We are proud to announce the Lamm Lab has been selected as a strategic partner in the newly announced National Pork Board funded multi-year effort! Dr. Alexa Lamm will lead the science communication portion of the Consortium which includes sharing and testing scientific information about pork and pork production with consumers, conducting science communication research to identify best strategies for communicating about the pork industry, and holding training for pork producer, allied partners, members of the media, and graduate students to assist in their ability to communicate science more effectively. Graduate researchers in the Lamm Lab will be supporting efforts to identify consumer questions involving the pork industry and respond to those questions using strategic, evidence-based agricultural science communication efforts.
Titled the Real Pork Trust Consortium, the project will combine the efforts and expertise of researchers at five institutions. Dr. Lamm shared, “We are thrilled to be a pivotal partner in helping the animal science industry showcase the science behind animal production and the unique attributes of their end product. We are also excited to work with a commodity board that is committed to understanding and acknowledging consumer concerns so research can be done to address them directly with the results helping people make informed decisions about the food they eat.”

In the Lamm Lab, we are eager to collaborate with researchers from Iowa State University, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and the University of Minnesota. Partners on this project include previous Lamm Lab members Dr. Fallys Masambuka-Kanchewa, assistant professor at Iowa State University, and Dr. Katie Sanders, assistant professor at North Carolina State University. We look forward to continuing to collaborate on science communication with these outstanding researchers along with our colleagues at the other prestigious institutions. The Real Pork Trust Consortium is currently in the midst of the planning phase and the team looks forward to unveiling updates and a timeline during fall 2023.
