I was fortunate enough to be a part of the CAES: Flowers and Photography study abroad this May. This program took us through three European countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, as we learned about the cultural and horticultural history of those nations. As someone with a vested interest in Art History, I looked forward…

The most unexpected cultural experience that I really enjoyed was with dinner. Each lunch and dinner at restaurants were served in multiple courses. This began with the appetizer aka “Antipasto” (usually consisting of bread and olive oil if it is not included on the house). The waiters and waitresses provide just enough time for the…

As part of the CAES: Flowers and Photography program, our group spent the last five days of the program in France. There we visited many places, such as Chantilly and Giverny, but primarily we remained in Paris. Paris truly is a cosmopolitan city, as the capital of France, it also serves as the repository for…

  • When you’re there, you’re family: Morocco

    Allison Belkeir

    July 3, 2023

If you’ve ever traveled abroad, you’ll know how different cultures can be. You can cross a town’s border and be shocked by a language change. You can travel to another country only 30 minutes by train and see different foods. And of course there is the striking nature of how beautiful other countries are, especially…

One of the best things for me with planning and preparing and being on this trip was that I knew someone who had gone the year before and was going again. Having Cora, our TA, and a fellow employee at the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia, made the trip feel so much more comfortable and…

  • Bar la Posta Caffè in Cortona

    Jonah Zabik

    July 3, 2023

One of my favorite places in Cortona must be this coffee bar called “Bar la Posta.” I went here for lunch almost every single day because I greatly enjoyed the sandwiches as seen in one of the photos above and would grab 2 of them for lunch every single day. For most people 1 sandwich…

The purpose of prayer in Christianity from my perspective growing up Christian was to be saved, to reach a higher power for daily life guidance, and to be forgiven/confess your sins. Here in Morocco, it feels that the purpose has a different context. Prayer in Islam or at least Moroccan Islam seems to be motivated…

Going into this program, I had no idea what to expect when living in a different country for almost a month. It was scary because I am used to a certain routine, meals, and a cold room to sleep in. We lived at the top of the hill right before the Santa Margherita Church at…

    July 3, 2023

One piece of advice I would give to someone going into this program is to make sure you spend your free time wisely. You will have class Monday-Friday from 8:30 am- 5:30 pm with a three-hour lunch break as lunch is a leisurely activity in Italy. I suggest focusing on your studying during the lunch…

This past May I was given the opportunity to go on a study away with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) through a program titled “Scotland:Youth Engagement in Agriculture”. When I read through the program description I was convinced there couldn’t be a better study-away opportunity that tied into my professional goals. My…
