    June 13, 2017

Hello! My name is Annika Jonker, and I have the incredible opportunity of attending UGA’s Avian Biology study abroad program May 8th – which is only days away! Throughout my life, I have lived in 3 continents thanks to my father’s job. I was born in South Africa, then moved to Europe when I was…

My trip to Cortona, Italy was not only my first UGA study abroad trip, it was also my first time going abroad in general. Before this trip, it had been 8+ years since I had even been on an airplane, and I have never flown for more than two hours at a time. To say…

    June 13, 2017

My viticulture/enology class began our first full day in Cortona. The lectures in the class were all interesting and, for the most part, easy to follow. The bulk of the first week focused on the plants themselves and the diseases they faced. As a pathology major, this section interested me the most. However, after the…

My time in Italy was incredible. I believe that during the course of this trip, I developed a lot as an individual. Before I left for Italy, I was hesitant to do things on my own and experience new things. In Italy, everything was new. I quickly learned that doing new things (with people and…

  • Curious About Costa Rica

    Samantha Goodman

    June 13, 2017

I have never been outside of the country before. None of my family has. When I first approached my mom and dad about this amazing opportunity, I was equally as skeptical as they were. Many thoughts were rushing through my mind: Could we afford this? Would I enjoy leaving my life for 20 days? How…

Many people, when applying for a study abroad, are told of the amazing sights and academic ventures they will experience. However, what people never emphasize if the lifelong, unbreakable friendships you will create. In the photo, you see a group of tired and sweaty, but ecstatic, students. We started as virtual strangers but became close…

    June 13, 2017

I returned from Costa Rica on May 28th. Those who went on the trip with me can tell you that I had a full evolution of emotion during our 20 days there. Excitement for the first few hikes quickly turned into exhaustion which melted into severe homesickness. Missing my family, paired with an unknown illness…

    June 13, 2017

Coming home from Costa Rica was a very bittersweet moment. I enjoyed this Study Abroad trip so much and loved all the many experiences I was able to have. However, once I knew it was close to time to going home, I knew I was ready. I was excited to get back to the States…

As happy I am to be back home, a small part of my heart still remains in Italy. I already miss the food, culture, and knowing around every corner there is a new piece of art and history to be discovered. But here is where my closest friends and family reside, and honestly could not…
