Dr. Alexa Lamm‘s Agricultural and Environmental Science Communication model was developed based on research findings from the past 20 years spanning multiple agricultural and environmental topics spanning across the industry (e.g. water, food security, plastic use, animal production, invasive species, climate variability, pest management, food access, food safety, community development). The results of over 250 peer-reviewed journal publications which included feedback from growers and producers, scientists, members of the public, international partners, and policy makers all culminated in a simple, yet highly useful model which can be used to inform science communication messages.

To be most effective when communicating science you need to 1) get to know your audience; 2) develop a message which will account for and resonate with their needs, beliefs, and perceptions; 3) deliver your message on a channel your audience uses appropriately; and 4) have the message delivered by a source they trust.
