Three Lamm Lab members were recently recognized for their outstanding academic work at the recent Association for Communication (ACE) Conference in Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Katie Sanders, Kristin Gibson, and Dr. Alexa Lamm received the honor of 2023 Article of the Year in the Journal of Applied Communications for their work titled “Perceived Government Control and its Influence on Climate Change Knowledge and Perceptions: Applications for Effective Communication”.
As Dr. Sanders, the lead author on the publication says, the article came from the time at the beginning of the pandemic familiar to all of us – isolated and looking for answers.
“We wanted to explore beyond political ideology and political affiliation as a predictive characteristic of people’s belief in climate change. We wanted to know, aside from political party, what parts of our political thought process influence how we come to see and understand climate change?,” Sanders said. “We found that, while political affiliation/ideology remained a strong predictor, people’s perception of the role of government, specifically government control or support related to environmental regulation, increased the capacity to predict someone’s orientation toward climate change beliefs.”
Congratulations to the team on their hard work on this piece and for receiving recognition for its impact in the applied communication space.
