College of Public Health undergraduate students, Emily ArmstrongSaher Dossani, and Rose Tran, all received Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) awards to work with Dr. Alexa Lamm for the Spring 2023 semester.

For the award, the students are enrolled in a course where they worked on individual research projects. Armstrong examined the purchasing habits of rural Georgia residents when presented with different food options, including a variety of chips and cut fruit. Tran identified Extension resources that may improve access to healthy foods and physical activity spaces in rural Georgia. Dossani explored the impacts of the Healthier Together program to determine if COVID-19 interfered with the availability of program resources.

Armstrong, Dossani, and Tran will present their research at the CURO Symposium held from April 3-4 at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia. They also plan to submit their work to additional conferences.

The students will also help write a manuscript about health interventions in rural Georgia from data collected by the Healthier Together team in Fall 2022.
