Katie Sanders presented an oral presentation at the Association of International Agricultural and Extension Education’s 2022 conference held in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her presentation, entitled “Poetic transcription for identity exploration: Engaging arts-based analyses for community-based program evaluation,” explored the potential of using research poetry to communicate the social impacts of community-based health initiatives. This was one of three presentations presented by Sanders at the conference.
Sanders, along with her co-author and advisor, Alexa Lamm, are excited about the potential of this new approach to analyzing evaluation data for community-based programs. Lamm, a long-time member of AIAEE and previous editor for the associated journal, Journal of International Agricultural and Extension Education, encouraged Sanders to pursue this line of inquiry to help communicate the impact of the work being done through Healthier Together Georgia, a CDC-funded health promotion initiative in five rural counties in Georgia. Sanders hopes to continue this research method in future evaluation work with the project.
The manuscript associated with the conference presentation has been published with the International Journal of Qualitative Methods.
