  • Pre-Italy: Anxieties and Excitement

    Chelsea McMahan

Before May 7th, Italy was all I could talk about. This was to be my first time out of the country, first time traveling for longer than a week, first time being immersed in a culture significantly different than my own. I was a mess of emotions: excitement, worry, fear, wonder, nervousness. But above all,…

Hi, As much as I did in Costa Rica, one of the experiences that stands out the most is zip lining and bungee jumping in Monteverde. How many people can say they did that? Heights make me a little nervous, but I wasn’t going to pass up on an adventure as great as this. The…

When that plane finally touched the ground, returning to the States, I let out a deep sigh for many reasons. On one hand, I was glad to be home among the scenery and culture I was so familiar with and the friends and family that I love. But on the other hand, I sighed because…

Anyone who is preparing to study abroad or even take a vacation across the border probably has a set of expectations of things they thought they might encounter while away, and many of those things do end up coming to pass, such as language barriers, homesickness, things like that. But there’s always a few odd…

In those weeks leading up to the day you finally set out to leave for your big trip, there’s so many emotions that run through your mind. Mostly excitement, enthusiasm, wanderlust, and anticipation. You can’t wait to set out on your big journey. For me, it was all fun and excitement right up until the…

Hi, I’m back in America, and I couldn’t be sadder that my Avian Biology study abroad in Costa Rica is over. In fact, I can’t wait to study abroad again. I had always wanted to travel, but I didn’t realize how much I would love it. There’s this feeling you get when you’re headed in…

The trip has been crazy so far! Everything in Ecuador is so fascinating and beautiful. Our group is sitting in the airport in Quito, waiting to go to the Galapagos Islands. The trip is ending, and this is the perfect finish. While on mainland Ecuador, I have seen and touched so many bugs. I am…

It’s a bittersweet ending to the month of May. I successfully (somewhat) completed my first year of college, far away from home. I was able to partake in a once-in-a-lifetime experience by studying abroad in Ecuador. Before I start my school year, I never imagined that I would be travelling abroad this year. My next…

Very, very nervous! I’m sitting in the airport right now, waiting for our flight to Quito. I’ve been here approximately 2 hours and the flight isn’t for another hour or so. We left Athens around noon on a UGA bus. I didn’t know those things could be taken off-campus/on the highway. I tried to sleep,…
