Being from a farming background, I was most excited about our cacao farm visits throughout the trip. On the first day, we visited a small cacao farmer, who made this beautiful arrangement for us out of cacao pods and cacao tree leaves. He showed us around his farm, and showed us a neighboring pineapple farm,…

While the entire trip was a blast, one of my favorite days was a day when we just got to see Costa Rica! We started the morning off by going on a zip-lining tour through the clouds. While we may have been cold and wet the entire time, the views were incredible and it was…

My favorite activity during our study abroad — besides tasting all the wonderful chocolate — would have to be zip-lining over the trees in the rainforest. We were in Abangares, Costa Rica, and the mountain views paired with my adrenaline rush was simply amazing. It was very cloudy that day, so we could only see…

This isn’t my first trip abroad, or to Costa Rica even. I actually spent nearly 2 months in Costa Rica on a study abroad experience in my undergrad career. So I’ll admit that I wasn’t entirely too concerned or uninformed of what was about to take place. However, this did not necessarily mean that I…

I’ve toured all kinds of coffee farms now, from small scale to mass production. One thing that amazes me is the intense awareness of sustainability the country of Costa Rica has. The country has created rules and regulations to ensure that Costa Rica is on its way to become a carbon neutral country –and this…

All in all, our trip to Costa Rica was great! I learned more about cacao farms and chocolate production than I could’ve ever imagined. I also got to experience Costa Rican culture, tried lots of tropical fruit, and brushed up on my Spanish. We got to see a state park that tours a cloud forest…

Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the Choco Rica Study abroad in Costa Rica!
