For anyone who is scared to study abroad, I was just like you. I knew that studying abroad was going to push me out of my comfort zone, and I wasn’t sure I was prepared for how far out of that zone I would go. It was daunting and exciting in the days leading up…

Before going to Spain. I had never been out of the country. I had barely even been out of Georgia. If you can imagine the fear I had built up to the night before leaving. I had researched almost every day and spoken to others to gain as much insight as I possibly could about…

  • Go without expectations.

    Amelia Clary

    June 28, 2019

My major piece of advice for someone who is traveling abroad for the first time is this: go without any expectations of any kind. I went with the hopes of recreating the trips of friends and family. I went thinking that I would hate Paris. I went thinking that I had to be busy every…

    June 28, 2019

For my summer semester I got to spend 2 weeks in a beautiful tropical jungle in Costa Rica. It went very well for nearly the entire first two days. We were staying in a little room with no air conditioning that was open to any bugs that wanted to come in and cuddle with you.…

    June 28, 2019

With my Spring semester finished at the University of Georgia, I had just one week before I would be departing to attend the UGA Avian Biology Maymester program in Costa Rica. This program would be my first study abroad experience therefore; I had no clue what to expect. I was told by numerous people who…

  • How do I get out of here!?

    Elizabeth Coleman

    June 28, 2019

How do I get out of here!? That was the first question I asked when I landed in FCO airport in Rome. The first signs I saw were only in Italian and “exit” was not a word that I had learned. I knew how to say “Hello!” and “My name is Elizabeth.” Yet these words…

Lemon. レモン. Citronu. Chanh. Limão. However you say lemon, sometimes life hands them to you. Baseball game gets rained out. Your favorite tv show gets canceled. **One of your return flight connections from Europe gets canceled and you have to sit in the Boston airport praying that you get on the standby flight for 6…

    Savannah Austin

    June 28, 2019

My family occasionally cooks with olive oil, and when I go eat at Olive Garden or a fancy restaurant I love to dip my bread in olive oil and vinegar. I know we have a few olive groves in Georgia but I’ve never visited any or even thought about the production of olives and olive…

Sitting in a cool, stone walled room in a restaurant in Florence with meat curing on the ceiling and waiters bring course after course of Italian delicacies that few of us have seen before, Dr. Smalley, the Grand Tour leader, told us two words that resonated with me the entire study abroad and my time…
