In Costa Rica, the environment is perfect for growing many tropical plants that can be farmed for food, timber, and many other products. The perfect mix of warm weather and rainfall all year round makes this rainforest a victim to the growing populations of the world. Many hectares of land has been deforested and replanted…

This photo was taken on the first day of my Avian Biology Maymester in Costa Rica. Although it was only 3:00 in the afternoon, I had already seen so much. We had flown in the night before and were up and ready to go at 5:30 the next morning. On our way out we drove…

Before my trip to Spain, I had no experience leaving the country on my own. The farthest I had even gone out of the country was to Mexico a few years ago. I did not know anybody that was going to be on this trip, nor had any experience in Europe. Therefore, to say I…

  • The Importance of Representation

    Leslie Okeke

    July 5, 2019

Throughout my trip through Europe for three weeks, I struggled with relating to and staying interested in the art. I never saw any African culture or any black faces in any of the art. Don’t get me wrong, the paintings were marvelous and beautiful, but I still desired that representation. I just wanted to see…

    Annaleah Phillips

    July 5, 2019

Uber is always the go-to method of public transportation here in the United States. In Athens, Uber is pretty much the only way to get from place to place directly, just short of the buses. As if navigating a new city is not hard enough, it adds a new twist when you cannot speak the…

If you are interested in a study abroad trip, specifically The Grand Tour, here are a few tips! First off, pack light. Bring layering items. When we arrived in Rome, it was pretty warm outside. By the time we made it to Ireland, it was pretty chilly outside. So pack the necessities for all weather…

  • Language Barrier: Is it really that scary?

    Anna Wilson

    July 5, 2019

I know many people are quite nervous about the language difference when studying abroad. Even though I have taken both French and Italian, I was also still nervous about going to those countries. However, much to my suprise, pretty much everyone spoke English to some extent. That being said, many do appreciate and will be…

Going abroad was an absolutely insane thought to me because I had never even thought about traveling abroad. Needless to say, there were many doubts. The flight, the language barrier, the cost, the everything. It was all something that I was.. skeptical about needless to say. Once landing in Spain, my perspective was changed. The…

  • What language barrier?

    Leslie Okeke

    July 5, 2019

This summer, I travelled to seven countries in Europe: Italy, France, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. Surprisingly, the countries I loved the most were the countries where I couldn’t easily speak English. I’ve been studying Spanish for years and was ready to use it since romance languages are very similar. I had a true…

small olives on an olive tree

Even though I’m not exactly interested in crop growing, I was surprised at how interesting I found the olive farm to be. I think the only experience I’ve had with olive oil is when it is served with bread at an Italian food restaurant. I’m not a very ambitious cook, so I had never cooked…
