  • Adventures to Ecuador: The Galápagos Islands!

    Taylor Pearson

    July 7, 2022

The second portion of our trip included three of the Galapagos Islands: San Cristobal, Santa Cruz, and Isabella Islands! Here, we focused on evolutionary biology and ecology by learning about the adaptations many animals accrued, such as beak shape and size in Darwinian finches and prey specialization in invasive insect species. While on the islands,…

Flying is something that I love to do. It just seems impossible. The fact that I am traveling thousands of feet in the air cruising at hundreds of miles per hour is absolutely mind bending. Not everyone shares my love of flying though. Multiple members of our group had genuine fears of flying which served…

As soon as we arrived at San Cristobal, we were greeted by the squawking seals which littered the streets, benches, and just about every imaginable spot that had a somewhat flat surface. After unpacking our possessions and settling into our home for the next few days, a few of us walked toward the beach near…

    July 7, 2022

Collectivism or communalism is the societal orientation towards putting the needs of the community or group before the needs of the individual within the group. https://www.britannica.com/topic/collectivism This is a common value in family structures that are non-western. The trend also carries over into Moroccan society. In collectivist societies, it is thought that advancing the group…

    July 7, 2022

In the United States, the term “housewife” comes with a plethora of opinions & associations. Whether Americans love the concept or hate it, generally the status of being a housewife is one saved for women in affluent families. In traditional Moroccan families, however, the term “housewife” doesn’t really exist; it is simply just a fact…

    July 7, 2022

The Kingdom of Morocco is generally considered an Islamic country. The population is made up of more than 37 million people with at least 99% being Muslims. In my own community, the large percentage of people I encounter are of the Christian faith. This difference coupled with the influence of Islam on Moroccan culture &…

    Bryan Ogork

    July 7, 2022

Cuba has a planned-socialist economy and its main source of revenue at the moment is tourism and the export of healthcare services, which it does by sending physicians, nurses, and healthcare technicians to nations like Venezuela and Brazil. Gone are the days of sugar and tobacco being the main income source. Rather, the nation now…

One of my favorite parts of this trip was seeing Blair Castle while traveling from Inverness to Edinburgh. The rich history is so perfectly preserved.
