One of the best things about traveling abroad is the appreciation that you gain for your home country. Of course, I would never trade my study abroad experience for anything in the world, but by the end, there were several things that I missed about the good ole USA. One thing that I missed terribly was ice or cold drinks in general. If I ordered a drink at a restaurant, it was never boiling hot, but after a long day of sight seeing and touring, it would be nice to have an ice cold water. Although not having cold drinks wasn’t ideal, it didn’t compare to not having air conditioning. The highs where I was in France would get up to about 80 degrees in the day. That being said, when you would get hot outside you couldn’t just go into a store or a restaurant for some relief. It was actually hotter indoors than out, so there was no escape. The final thing that I missed was just a good, greasy fast food hamburger. On my last night in Paris before I returned home, I actually went to Five Guys, ordered that big, juicy burger, and ate every bit of it with zero guilt. Although it’s good to be back in America for many different reasons, I can’t wait for my next trip abroad, wherever that may be.
