A piece of advice that I would give to those who do this study abroad in the future is to try to really get to know the other people attending. It is a great opportunity to make new life long friends and memories that you all will never forget. Since I am a horticulture major and this study abroad is credited as a HORT course, I knew quite a few people before going on the trip. It was common for us to plan to spend our free time together since we are all good friends and have a lot in common, but some of my most memorable moments were when I would branch out and spend time getting to know people I had never met before coming on the trip. In Rome, I spent an afternoon with a group of students that I had never met, and we ended up having such a great time. It was out of my comfort zone to leave my group of friends for people I did not know, but it turned out to be so much fun. We walked through the Sistine Chapel, went to the Colosseum, conquered riding the city buses, and had a great dinner at the Piazza Navona. We had more in common than I thought we would and made some great memories together. You never know who you will have a lot in common with, so you should try your best to take time to get to know everyone you are traveling with. It is great to be able to go on a trip like this with people you know because it makes you more comfortable but bonding with new people is what study abroad is all about. It was great to get to know people from other majors that I normally would never cross paths with on campus.
