Once I came back to the United States, I realized how much fun I had and it hit that I could finally say that I’ve traveled. As I reflect on my time overseas, I realized that I took away two main things. First, meals are social times whether it be breakfast or a midday snack. I had never spent so long at a dinner table before going to Uruguay. Secondly, I learned that hard work is what makes a farm work. While traveling across Uruguay, we visited many various ranches and farms, all having the same thing in common. Every single one was family run, with low turnover rates of employees. Everyone cared for each other and helped each other. They also cared for the animals immensely while they instituted many agricultural practices to make the animals lives as happy as possible such as each cattle having 4 acres to themselves whereas in the U.S. it is less than two acres per animal. Walking through the city, I fell in love with the culture and atmosphere of Uruguay and can’t wait to visit again.
