As we arrived in Atlanta, I immediately missed Uruguay. It was in the 40’s and raining while the week in Uruguay was sunny and 75 degrees. As I start back to classes and work these last few weeks of the semester I think about how grateful I am to have been given the opportunity to study abroad. We learned so much in the time we were there and met some awesome people I know I will never forget.

I encourage every student at UGA that this study abroad program pertains to to take advantage of this opportunity. Coming from a background of row crops and swine, I was allowed to broaden my knowledge to other areas of agriculture such as beef cattle, dairy, sheep, and the rice industry. Not to mention olive oil production and wind energy.

During my stay there, I was also able to experience the laid back Uruguayan culture. I have an up most appreciation for their traditional culture and way of life. They are very proud of their country and their farms. They work together to better their farming practices by sharing ideas. This is a practice I wish more farmers in the United States would start up.

As I come back to reality and finish up my last semester as an undergraduate at UGA, I can honestly say I had the best last spring break. I know this trip has greatly benefited me as a student and will continue to benefit me in my future career in the agriculture sector.
