Each week, Oconee Area Resource Council sends home nearly 200 food bags with students over the weekend. These students have been referred by a counselor or signed up by an adult in their life. Typically, these students are on free and reduced lunch at school, and the food bags give them a health option over the weekend. I would like to send home a Leadership Kit with each food bag one-week next fall. I think the kids could include a visual with information about what leadership looks like at school (this is for elementary and middle school students) and an engaging activity that would help them build their leadership skills. I’m thinking of something like leadership bingo or challenge cards that identify age-appropriate leadership traits. I would also like to include leadership conversation starters to talk with a parent about, and maybe even a leadership scavenger hunt. I would like to include a fun (or tasty) goodie of some sort also.

“My goal is to create an opportunity that exposes food insecure youth to leadership development ideas and opportunities in a fun, manageable, and engaging way.”
