The AflaSTOP: Storage and Drying for Aflatoxin Prevention project has a new monthly newsletter to keep everyone up to date on the progress of the month.
AflaSTOP is a ACDI/VOCA project in Kenya, working to find storage options that impede the growth of aflatoxin and give smallholder farmers a way to dry their grain and store it safely.
In the first edition of the new newsletter, AflaSTOP reviews the results of tests to compare five hermetic storage devices (metal silo; plastic silo; Grain Pro bulk bag; PICs Bag; Grain Pro Super Bag) on the growth of aflatoxin, fumonisin, and post-harvest concerns such as insect damage, moisture loss, and grain discoloration. (Three hermetic devices controlled growth to less than 5% per month in the controlled, off-farm trials.)
The newsletter also covers the impending commercial launch of a new shallow bed portable batch dryer that the project designed with Catapult Designs. See it in action on YouTube.
The newsletter isn’t posted on ACDI’s website, but you can go to AflaSTOP’s publications page for updates and to subscribe to publications.
