Soil3 is a humus compost that is made, and this company is a division of Patten Seed Company that was established in 2011. Their motto and what they try to achieve through their compost is, “The Natural Way to Build Good Soil Structure.” They say their compost grows stronger, healthier plants all while reducing the need for chemicals. Soil3 is made from grass clippings from their sod farms, wheat straw on their farms, and cow manure from a local dairy. They use the high heat method to make their compost which is at 160 degrees and then they add mycorrhizae. There are different mixes based on what the customer needs, so they have mixtures for garden soil, organic soil, and organic lawn care. The benefit of this humus compost is that is OMRI listed as safe for organic use, helps water retention, suppresses disease, and less fertilizer for a number of years. The location we will be visiting is the Fort Valley, GA location, but there are locations in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The Fort Valley location is a Super-Sod Middle Georgia dealer, and they have humus compost and root pouch grow bags are available. After researching, I am looking forward to seeing the process of how they make the compost and different mixtures. I also want to see if I can potentially use these product at my fresh cut flower operation because I currently plant in mushroom compost. Overall, Soil3 has provided a great source for humus compost from their local resources.
