Rutland Farm is a Southern family traditional farm that remains family owned and operated. It was started in 1916 by Charlie Rutland with only 36 acres, and today it has grown to over more that 2100 acres! They started out as simple shed serving the locals and visitors. Rutland farm broke grown in 2011 with a new 4000 square foot facility where locals and visitors can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, jams, nuts, and their famous strawberry ice cream!

In 2011 they started a corn maze fun activity for their visitors to enjoy. They actually receive help from a professor, Dr. Vellidis, and his students from UGA Tifton Precision Agriculture class. They integrate an image to the software that they use and the software relays the boundaries of the field and gives real earth coordinates that the students help guide Ryan Rutland to cut the maze. Their corn maze in 2015 actually got national attention when their theme was Mark Richt, a former UGA football coach, and was featured in a ESPN article. They are also known for their ponds for fishing, which they have over 20 ponds including a pond that is over 80 years old, called the Granddaddy pond, and has never been drained! Locals believe it might be holding a 20+ pound bass.

They have over 22 different crop varieties. They are mainly known for their JUMBO strawberries in the spring. In the summer, they have watermelon, cantaloupe, onions, corn, peaches, tomatoes, okra, and peas. In the fall they have pumpkins. Overall, they have great selections year round of fruits and vegetables for their customers. Rutland farm is a farm that you can visit with family and friends and have fun with all the diverse activities available such as, Bass fishing tournament, petting zoo, Easter egg hunting, and even cutting your own Christmas tree in winter!

I am excited to visit Rutland farm to see how they manage the varieties of crops and how a traditional family farm operates!
