For those who would like to hear more about the Durham Horticulture Farm, the farm’s superintendent, Ryan McNeill, will be giving a presentation at the Friends of the State Botanical Garden’s First Friday series. Read more about the presentation here. Preregistration is required.

The first snow of the season (and a couple of years) was a not too disruptive event for the farm. Warm greenhouses with snow arch frames easily withstood the accumulation of 3-4″ from the January 10th event. Let’s hope for a couple of more manageable snow days before the growing season begins.

Commuters driving by the Durham Farm may have noticed the recent clearing of several rows of trees just below some of our vegetable plots. These trees are pecans (Carya illinoiensis) that are no longer in active evaluations and so they will be cleared to make room for new research plots. What will go in this…
