Alice Mutiti Mweetwa, a collaborating scientist with the Peanut & Mycotoxin Innovation Lab, has won the 2017 Young African Researchers Award for her contributions to agriculture and food sciences.
Mweetwa is a senior lecturer and the assistant director of the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Zambia. She was nominated by the National Science and Technology Council after she won the 2016 Science and Technology Merit Award in Zambia.
The Young African Researchers Award is given to people under the age of 45 who have shown outstanding contribution to science and innovation, specifically with for authenticity and quality of research.
She will travel to Cairo later this year to accept the award, which comes with a $15,000 cash prize.
Mweetwa is a collaborator on both the Southern Africa Peanut Value Chain Interventions and Southern Africa Pre-harvest Value Chain Analysis projects.
