| Free webinar / Zoom Rose Rosette Disease Updates on biology, management, and breeding for resistance. Nov 17, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM Eastern. Register free on Zoom. |
Red, bunched-up new growth. Canes packed with soft thorns. A witches’ broom where a healthy Knock Out used to be. That’s rose rosette disease, and once a rose has it, the plant can’t be treated or cured (UGA Extension Circular 1176).
On Tuesday, November 17, the researchers working on each piece of the problem will walk through it in one morning: the tiny eriophyid mite that spreads the virus, the virus itself, and the breeding work aimed at roses that hold up to it. Speakers come from UGA Entomology, UGA Plant Pathology, and Texas A&M, where Dr. Oscar Riera-Lizarazu holds the Basye Endowed Chair in Rose Genetics.
It’s all on Zoom. Register once, and Zoom emails you your own join link plus reminders, so you can catch the talk you need or stay for the whole morning. The webinar holds 1,000 people, and seats are first come, first served on the day, so plan to log in about 10 minutes early. Pesticide recertification credits have been applied for. To receive credit, enter your Georgia applicator license number when you register.

| The last 20 minutes are a survey Kavitha Patchipala will go through with attendees. It asks what you’re seeing on your roses, what rose rosette costs you, and which research would help most. Dr. Joseph’s team will use the answers to decide where research and Extension help should go next. If you can’t join on the 17th, you can still weigh in: answer the survey online. |
