Emily Shelby, MS

About Me:

I am a first-generation student from Savannah, TN. I received my B.S. and M.S. in Biology from Mississippi State University before pursuing a Ph.D. in Entomology at the University of Georgia under the mentorship of Dr. Trish Moore. I am also the creator/host of Grad Gab , which is a somewhat-educational podcast where graduate students get to tell their stories. I participate in many on-campus organizations such as the H.O. Lund Entomology Club and the Graduate Student Association. Outside of the university I enjoy cooking, listening to podcasts, and spending time with my three cats: Iris, Felix, and Pibby.

Research:

I am a PhD candidate interested in understanding everything that goes into making an embryo. Specifically, I ask questions about the role of DNA machinery in reproduction and the evolution of pattern formation during embryogenesis. The main focus of my research is investigating the functional role of DNMT1 during oogenesis and embryogenesis in hemimetabolous insect.
