Introduction
Welcome to the Intelligent Systems for Poultry Lab at the University of Georgia! You are joining an excellent institution with a proud history. The University of Georgia is the oldest public University in the United States and has been consistently ranked among the top 20 public research universities in the U.S. We are here to innovate in multimodality sensing (e.g., computer vision, audio, radio frequency identification, accelerometer, spectroscopy) and automation/robotics technologies to address practical needs/challenges in various phases of vertically-integrated poultry production systems and beyond. We work on an interdisciplinary interface and collaborate closely with biologists, poultry/animal scientists, computer scientists, and engineers. The lab is committed to providing the best resources to support lab members in growing professionally and becoming experts in relevant disciplines. We believe our work will help advance the efficiency and sustainability of global food, environments, and production systems, which is critical to the well-being and sustainability of the human population.
Prospective Students
Thank you for your interest in the lab’s research and anticipation of joining the lab. The lab is always actively looking for students who are self-motivated, inquisitive, creative, collaborative, and hardworking. The PI endeavors to provide lab members with the tools, resources, advice, and intellectual flexibility needed to develop into independent scholars. The PI expects students in the lab to be full and active participants in the intellectual and collaborative environments. So, if you are interested in joining the lab at the University of Georgia, please send the PI an email or stop by the office for a chat (Room 242, Poultry Science Building). The PI will be happy to talk with you about your interests. International students can email the PI with a resume and cover letter to consult the openings of graduate research assistant positions. International students should check the admission requirements from the UGA Graduate School.
The lab works collaboratively with a number of poultry/animal scientists, roboticists, computer scientists, and engineers across different departments/schools at UGA. The nature of modern research efforts makes this a very profitable way to work. The collaborative universities include China Agriculture University, Mississippi State University, Iowa State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Tennessee, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Tarbiat Modares University, and Henan University of Animal Husbandry and Economy. The lab always welcomes new collaborations and new opportunities to work with new collaborators (e.g., visiting researchers and faculties), so please do not hesitate to get in contact with the PI if you are interested in what we do.
