The Peanut Foundation is requesting general and genomic research proposals for funding for 2017, the only time the foundation will solicit proposals in this funding cycle.
Proposals should address research priorities relevant to the needs of the peanut industry. Proposal selection and budgetary award will be based on available funds.
TPF will consider 2017 proposals in the following research areas:
- Sequencing & Assembly of Arachis genomes, including evaluation of new technologies
- Characterization & Transfer of Useful Genetic Diversity from Wild to Cultivated Peanuts
- Characterization of Gene Function & Genetic Regulation of Biological Mechanisms
- Development of DNA Markers & Technologies that Facilitate Marker-Assisted Selection
- Mapping QTL for Crop Protection & Quality Trait Phenotypes in Structured Populations
- Expansion of Bioinformatic Resources and Improved Utility of the Breeder’s Toolbox
- Variety Development & Crop Production Practices
- Enhancement of Product Flavor, Nutrition & Safety, including Aflatoxin Reduction
Funding is available for a 12-month period, and requests to continue multi-year projects must be submitted annually.
Any scientist/researcher affiliated with a research institution or organization (public or private) with facilities and expertise to perform peanut research is eligible to apply. Scientists affiliated with the International Peanut Genome Initiative or working on other crops may participate in the genomic proposals via formal collaboration with U.S. investigators. Collaboration among multiple institutions is encouraged.
Proposals may address multiple research areas listed above but must not exceed 15 pages including attachments. Submissions are due by October 15, 2016 online.
The approval process will be completed in December and successful applicants notified as funds are available.
