The Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development is taking fellowship applications for students attending both the AIARD Annual Conference (June 5-7) and the Future Leaders Forum in Washington, D.C. Fellowships are made possible by USAID support and are awarded on a competitive basis to students who have a demonstrated interest in international agriculture and rural development.

The fellowships are intended to enhance the students’ understanding and appreciation of issues and opportunities in international agriculture and rural development. The objectives of the program are to:

  •      Facilitate student attendance and participation in the AIARD Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
  •      Broaden student vision and help build a broad array of social/cultural, economic and scientific skills required to become an effective 21st century professional in international agriculture and rural development.
  •      Facilitate career visioning and networking by providing a day and a half of visits to DC-based agencies, companies and organizations engaged in international agriculture and rural development.

Applications for scholarships are evaluated by an AIARD committee. Fellowships are intended to only partially cover expenses related to travel, lodging, registration fees and meals, so students receiving the fellowships will be responsible for obtaining additional funding to cover the total costs of participation.

This program is open to students attending U.S. universities (both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals) who are interested in international agricultural and rural development positions.

This year’s application is online at https://www.aiard.org/student-fellowship-application.html The deadline to apply is April 12, at 11:59 p.m., Pacific.  Fellowship recipients will be notified via email shortly after selection process is completed on April 30.
