The University of Georgia’s Department of Crop and Soil Sciences is hiring for a tenure-track, 12-month position (75% Research and 25% Extension) in crop physiology with a focus on peanut. This position will be located on the Tifton Campus of the University of Georgia.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program that focuses on the physiological aspects of peanut and other crops with the objective of improving crop/peanut production in Georgia. He or she will focus on whole-plant physiology and areas of emphasis will include, but are not limited to, physiology of crop/peanut growth and development, seed quality and yield, water and nutrition requirements, and environmental stress.
Experience in working with plant breeders and molecular biologists to screen and identify germplasm with improved traits using rapid phenotyping techniques will be beneficial.
The candidate must work cooperatively with UGA faculty, peanut and other crop teams, USDA-ARS, industry, and commodity groups.
The successful candidate will be expected to attract extramural funding, publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, maintain a Federal Hatch project, and support an active graduate student program.
Extension responsibilities will include:
- Supporting county extension programs
- In-service training
- Developing relationships with growers and agricultural industry
- Developing educational materials; and,
- Working with peanut and other crop extension teams.
- Program emphasis could change depending on the needs of the industry and State.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in agronomy, crop physiology, crop management, or closely related field. Experience in peanuts is desirable but not essential. The ability to attract extramural funding from grant agencies and industry is expected. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication, interpersonal relationships, and the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues.
