The government of the Gambia signed a loan agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) at the AfDB Meetings in Lusaka, Zambia, recently to fund the Agriculture Value Chains Development Project (AVCDP).
The $9 million project which was approved in March and involves the production, processing, storage and marketing of rice and livestock products. It is among the 15 value-chain engagements by AfDB on the continent.
Acting AfDB Vice-President, Sector Operations Kapil Kapoor lauded the project saying it would improve food security and create jobs in the country. The project also is meant to create and increase sustainable income for rural producers.
