Global candy giant Mars has signed a deal with the African Union Commission to share food safety resources and expertise to control aflatoxins in food crops. The agreement means Mars and the AUC’s Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA) will share food safety research, knowledge, and best practices, and work together to improve aflatoxin testing and controls. AUC will leverage Mars’ Global Food Safety Center, and together PACA and Mars will work to help raise awareness of aflatoxin issues across Africa, and identify opportunities to pilot and implement practical efforts to improve food safety in Africa.
