The Barman Lab was proud to participate in and contribute to the success of the recently held Georgia Pecan Growers Association(GPGA) Field Day on September 3, 2026.

As part of the field day, our PI, Dr. Apurba Barman, engaged with pecan growers and other industry stakeholders, sharing practical and science-based approaches for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in pecan production.

The discussions focused on strategies for managing several economically important pecan pests, including:

  • Hickory Shuckworm – monitoring, mating disruption and damage assessment
  • Prionus Root borer – understanding their damage and incorporating timely management strategies including trapping and mating disruption
  • Pecan leaf scorch Mite (PLSM) – monitoring and management considerations for protecting pecan leaves
  • Pecan bacterial Leaf Scorch – understanding and identification of associated insect vectors and integrated approaches to minimize spread
…and other key pests affecting pecan production.

Events like this which had over 200 participants provide an important opportunity to connect research with real-world agricultural challenges, allowing scientists, growers, extension professionals, and industry stakeholders to share knowledge and work together toward more sustainable and effective pest management.

We are grateful to the Georgia Pecan Growers Association for bringing the pecan community together and creating a platform for meaningful discussion, learning, and collaboration.
At the Barman Lab, we remain committed to developing and delivering science-based, sustainable pest management solutions that support the productivity and long-term sustainability of Georgia’s pecan industry.
