We are pleased to share the success of the Southeast Georgia Pecan Field Day and IPM Workshop that held on August 26th at Odum, Georgia. The event brought together about 200 participants from across the pecan industry across Georgia and beyond, including pecan growers, crop consultants, extension agents, researchers, and industry representatives, for a day of learning, knowledge exchange, and discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing pecan production in Georgia.

As part of the program, Dr. Apurba Barman shared research findings from the Barman Lab at UGA Tifton Campus, highlighting advances in the identification, biology, ecology, monitoring, and management of key pecan insect pests and diseases. Some of the pests and disease covered included pecan aphids, hickory shuckworm, stinkbugs, prionus rootborer, vectors of the pecan bacterial leaf scorch among other pests of pecan.

The discussions emphasized how research-driven Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches can support more effective, sustainable, and economically viable pecan production.
Big thanks to Jermaine Perier, Ph.D. from Mississippi State University Kyle Slusher from Texas A&M University and Andrew Sawyer from The University of Georgia for their collaboration and beautiful deliveries to make sure we had an impactful session.

We are also grateful to all the pecan growers, consultants, extension professionals, researchers, industry partners, and other participants who made the event a success. Events like this provide an important platform for connecting research with practice and ensuring that scientific knowledge reaches the people who need it most.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to a successful field day!
