Give that Dawg a Bone Card Writing Campaign cards and envelopes

Fellow Ag Dawgs:

I wanted to take a minute to let you know about a fun campaign that UGA offers to alumni and friends. The “Give That Dawg A Bone” campaign matches alumni of the University to students that have applied and been admitted to UGA in a card writing campaign. The campaign is a great way for alumni to encourage high school students to choose UGA. Each campaign runs from mid-December through early April.

Susan Byus from the UGA Alumni Association is the coordinator of this program and she just asks that you commit to sending cards in batches of 10 at a time. It couldn’t be easier! You just click over to the sign up link here and fill in your information by November 13. A few weeks later you are sent a list of 10 students’ names, addresses, and potential majors along with note cards, envelopes, stickers, and even sample wording that you can personalize with your own experiences. As a proud Ag Dawg I am always sure to point out the opportunities that CAES has to offer since about 25 percent of our students transfer from other colleges within the University after they have started in Athens. Also, who doesn’t love getting hand-written snail mail in the days of emails, texts, DMs, and mass mailers, right?

Another great tip is to include your business card. I always offer the opportunity for the students to contact me directly if they have any questions. That also gives them a direct connection to an alum in the ag industry that they can reach out to if they have any questions in the future. It is comforting to a student that is making the biggest decision in their lives so far to have someone available to answer questions.

This really is quick, fun way to reach out to prospective students and encourage them to become a part of the Dawg family with very little time or effort on your part. I have been a participant of this campaign for at least five years now and hope it continues for years to come. I hope you’ll join us as we welcome the newest batch of Dawgs to the UGA family!
