Downy mildew was confirmed from the Tattnall County in Georgia on Vidalia Onion. The conditions currently are suitable for the infection and spread of the downy mildew pathogen. We urge growers to scout their crop routinely for any suspicious symptoms and contact their local county extension agent for further confirmation. The treatment options are moderate but extremely necessary to reduce severity of this disease. The fungicide options include:

  1. Omega 500 (best option if active downy is found)
  2. Orondis Ultra
  3. Zampro
  4. Bravo
  5. Phosphites

The scheme, number, rotation and frequency of fungicides will differ for fields with active infection vs. fields where downy mildew symptoms are not yet present. Please contact you local county extension agent for the choice and frequency of fungicides in a program.
