Our mission

is to enhance public health by controlling disease-causing bacteria across the food chain. Our research also tackles contamination in vital environmental matrices such as water. We aim to understand the biology and ecology of foodborne pathogens using a variety of innovative approaches. This is essential to understand how these pathogens can adapt and persist in the food chain and evade specific control measures. A major research focus is antimicrobial resistance, a phenomenon that is considered one of the major public health threats facing humanity. Our work has received wide-attention and resulted in novel insights and tangible solutions, addressing critical needs on three continents.
