Research Opportunities

Multidisciplinary Research: The highest priority of the Envirotron is to support multidisciplinary research, particularly research that includes biology (plant sciences, entomology, food sciences, pathology), physical sciences (atmospheric physics, soil chemistry and physics, and engineering), and social sciences.

Interactions among stresses: Initial funding for the Envirotron was provided to support investigation of the interactions among plant stresses related to air quality, such as temperature, carbon dioxide level, and air pollutants, and their relationships with other stresses such as water stress, pests, and diseases, and with water quality.

Integrated approach: The third research priority is to gain an integrated understanding of how processes in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum respond to various biotic and abiotic environmental conditions. Our emphasis is on developing an integrated understanding of how soil and root processes influence shoot processes and vice versa.
