Travel and Collection Blog

June 2022

We traveled to the other side of the country to California! This was the start of many collections across the United States, so we can get an accurate representation of the entire Angus population. We are collecting both rumen and fecal samples from every animal to take a snapshot into the microbial populations of these host animals. The bulls utilized in our project have their feed intake recorded as well as their pedigrees documented, so this allows us to make connections with the microbes to feed efficiency and then allows us to predict how well the next generation will perform.
