{"id":831,"date":"2024-07-16T10:00:22","date_gmt":"2024-07-16T14:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.caes.uga.edu\/vegpath\/?p=831"},"modified":"2024-07-16T10:00:22","modified_gmt":"2024-07-16T14:00:22","slug":"fall-beans-for-southern-ga-with-some-whitefly-transmitted-virus-resistance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.caes.uga.edu\/vegpath\/2024\/07\/fall-beans-for-southern-ga-with-some-whitefly-transmitted-virus-resistance\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall Beans for Southern GA with some whitefly-transmitted virus resistance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Based on the screens that were conducted in multiple years in Tifton there are handful for commercially acceptable snap bean varieties with at least moderate resistance to cucurbit leaf crumple virus.\u00a0 There were no varieties with high resistance.\u00a0 Of those with moderate resistance there were several from Harris Moran, Syngenta, Seminis and one from Pop Vriend seed.\u00a0 While I have trialed some of these varieties, others have not been evaluated in traditional variety trial settings. Therefore, growers may want to only trial a section of their fields to determine if the bean is suitable for their market.\u00a0 In previous trials, Barron and HMX516 both were similar to Caprice (industry standard) in terms of yield. Barron is a darker green bean though and be aware in a season when many beans may become bleached due to whitefly feeding, a dark green variety may stand out.\u00a0 Sybaris and Tema from Seminis, both have performed statistically as well as Caprice in trials and both have moderate resistance.
