Moore <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trish earned a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She was a faculty member at the University of Manchester and the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom before joining the Department of Entomology at UGA. She spent over 30 years in the Department of Genetics at the University of Georgia, where she joined Allen Moore&#8217;s laboratory, bringing molecular tools to the burying beetle project. Emily is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Entomology. Her research is investigating the use of DNMT1 as a target gene for RNAi biocontrol of whiteflies. Shannon completed her M.S. degree in Entomology in 2022. She was awarded an Endeavour Fellowship to work with The Behavioral and Evolutionary Ecology Research (BEER) Group at the University of Tasmania before joining the Moore Labs. Jen worked with Trish on the application of population genetics to biocontrol strategies in whiteflies as well as with Allen on behavioral plasticity, parental care, and climate change in burying beetles. Jen is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jenmosslab.com\/\">associate professor of biological sciences at Virginia Tech<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 30%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Joshua Washington<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Joshua graduated with an undergraduate degree in Biology from UGA. Joshua did undergraduate research with Trish examining the role of the maintenance methyltransferase DNMT1 in oogenesis in milkweed bugs, <em>Oncopeltus<\/em>. He graduated with his M.S. degree in Entomology in Spring, 2021. His MS research extended his studies investigating the role of DNMT1 in male fertility. Joshua&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2020.07.23.218180v3\">first paper<\/a> from his MS links developmental timing of meiosis and impact of <em>Dnmt1<\/em> knockdown on testis structure and male fertility. Joshua is a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia. This work was published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fevo.2020.00004\/full?&amp;utm_source=Email_to_authors_&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_content=T1_11.5e1_author&amp;utm_campaign=Email_publication&amp;field=&amp;journalName=Frontiers_in_Ecology_and_Evolution&amp;id=513003\">Frontiers in Ecology &amp; Evolution<\/a>. Ashley also did undergraduate research in Allen&#8217;s lab on the cold-breeding burying beetle, <em>Nicrophorus sayi<\/em>, published in <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/een.12670\">Ecological Entomology<\/a>. Ashley is currently in medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. <br><br><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 30%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Katelyn Cavender<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Katie did her honors thesis with Trish on the functional role of DNMT1 in spermatogenesis in adult male <em>Oncopeltus<\/em>. She showed that sperm depleted males in which <em>Dnmt1<\/em> expression is downregulated are unable to replenish sperm stores and become sperm limited, contributing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2020.07.23.218180v3\">our paper<\/a> on <em>Dnmt1<\/em> knockdown and male fertility. Zach first investigated the effect of diet on sperm numbers in <em>Oncopeltus<\/em>, contributing to a publication in <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/ece3.4511\">Ecology and Evolution<\/a>. He then worked with Trish to develop the use of RNAi to downregulate <em>Dnmt1<\/em> in <em>Oncopeltus<\/em> and analyzed the effect on oogenesis and embryo development, work that was published in <a href=\"https:\/\/epigeneticsandchromatin.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s13072-018-0246-5\">Epigenetics &amp; Chromatin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fevo.2020.00004\/full?&amp;utm_source=Email_to_authors_&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_content=T1_11.5e1_author&amp;utm_campaign=Email_publication&amp;field=&amp;journalName=Frontiers_in_Ecology_and_Evolution&amp;id=513003\">Frontiers in Ecology &amp; Evolution<\/a>.
