{"id":3180,"date":"2017-12-08T14:45:01","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T19:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.caes.uga.edu\/studyabroad\/?p=3180"},"modified":"2017-12-08T14:45:01","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T19:45:01","slug":"preparing-for-costa-rica-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.caes.uga.edu\/studyabroad\/2017\/12\/preparing-for-costa-rica-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Preparing for Costa Rica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, my name is Rance Paxton.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a graduate student in the college of agriculture.\u00a0 I heard about this study abroad course from a classmate that took it last year.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m most interested in learning about the coffee supply chain.\u00a0 As of now, I&#8217;m only a consumer of coffee and know little else about the drink I consume daily.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t identify a coffee plant, or any other parts of the process before it is roasted and packaged for my purchase.\u00a0 My first introduction to Costa Rican coffee came last semester during a marketing course which discussed a case study of Thrive Coffee.\u00a0Thrive is co-founded by UGA alumni Ken Lander in 2010, who was hobby farming coffee for a few years in Costa Rica.\u00a0 The case highlighted the redesign of the supply chain of Costa Rica&#8217;s coffee to improve the profits for coffee farmers.\u00a0 It&#8217;s my understanding that this is an issue most farmers experience in all markets.\u00a0 I&#8217;m excited to meet Ken and hear his experience as an entrepreneur.\u00a0 I would like to learn about their new supply chain and if it would be applicable for farmers with other crops.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, my name is Rance Paxton.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a graduate student in the college of agriculture.\u00a0 I heard about this study abroad course from a classmate that took it last year.
