{"id":195,"date":"2013-05-10T19:55:29","date_gmt":"2013-05-10T23:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.caes.uga.edu\/studyabroad\/?p=195"},"modified":"2019-06-03T15:28:47","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T19:28:47","slug":"getting-ready-george-g","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.caes.uga.edu\/studyabroad\/2013\/05\/getting-ready-george-g\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Ready &#8211; George G."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have already been on a couple of trips abroad, but never for an extended stay in a county where I don\u2019t know a single word of the language.\u00a0 My biggest concerns are two fold; packing for the weather and communication while\u00a0in France.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know how in the world we are supposed to pack for a trip ever since the airlines implemented so many baggage restrictions.\u00a0 It is easy to pack for just a few days, and if you can be fairly certain of the weather.\u00a0 During intermediate months like May, the temperatures could range from cold to hot, so clothing appropriate for all temperatures is required. Packing for cold temperatures requires heavy and bulky attire.\u00a0 The suitcase size allowed by the airlines will accommodate approximately one coat and nothing else.\u00a0 To make matters worse, the size of the checked luggage vary from airline to airline. I guess that I could just buy some clothes when I get there, but then there won\u2019t be any room to bring them back.<\/p>\n<p>I only know 2 words of French; \u201cBonjour\u201d and \u201cOui\u201d.\u00a0 \u201cNo\u201d is the same as in English, so I guess I know 3 words. \u00a0\u00a0I can just imagine myself standing at an intersection attempting to ask for directions, or wrangling with the foreign airlines about oversized luggage fees.\u00a0 My parents tell me that English is a second language in most countries around the world, so not to worry.\u00a0 Well, I will let you know in my next blog.<\/p>\n<p>Au revoir,<\/p>\n<p>(I guess I know 2 more words)<\/p>\n<p>George A.
