After I returned to the states, I could not stop thinking about how gorgeous the Tuscany region of Italy is. I am grateful that I was able to see cities such as Assisi and Montalcino. The vineyards are on rolling hills surrounded by medieval structures and blue skies. From our bedroom window we could see how vast the lands are. I also visited the bustling cities of Florence and Pisa, which offerred their own beautiful sights and architechture. Seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa was amazing. It’s an oddity that no one ever thinks they will see in real life until they do. While I did not get to see the Vatican City, I was able to tour several medieval cathedrals around the region. The St. Francis Basilica was breath-taking. It is amazing how well preserved some of the buildings are considering how old they are. Florence was captivating due to the modern buildings mixed in with medieval landmarks. There may be a Mcdonald’s across the street from a thousand year old church. Seeing history reflected in the landscape and environment was very intriguing. I enjoyed that I learned about more than just viticulture.
