My name is Chloe’ Boullon and I am senior at UGA majoring in Animal Science. I’m originally from Braselton, GA and have a passion for international travels. I applied for the Uruguay trip in the fall semester and was accepted to the program in December. What caught my eye about this study abroad were two things: the location and the subjects being covered. My father is Cuban and Chilean with his step mother being from Uruguay.  The Hispanic culture has always been close to home for me and the opportunity to travel to a family member’s home country really stood out to me. As an Animal Science major I have focused my studies on equine and beef cattle production. One of the hottest topics in the meat industry right now is grass fed versus grain fed beef. Having taken the Intro to Meat Science course, a course in which the student takes the animal from live animal to retail product, along with several other similar courses I have found a very large interest in how changes in production cause changes in the carcass. Seeing that the Uruguay trip would be focusing a good bit on beef cattle production and more specifically grass fed, I knew this was a perfect opportunity to study abroad. The trip has been much anticipated but the time has finally come. The journey to Montevideo has ended as we have gotten checked in and settled in our hotel. Tonight will be the kick off to our trip with an orientation followed by a group supper. I cannot wait to see what opportunities this week will have in store for us!

Until next time,

Chloe’ Boullon
