Mentoring in the Salzman Lab
Mentoring Philosophy – This will give you an idea of my approach to mentoring students and postdocs.
Lab Expectations – These are the expectations that I have for graduate students in the lab and the expectations that you can have for me. These expectations are well representative of what graduate school is like, with this particular document heavily lifted from Dr. Chelsea Specht, previously the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University.
I ask mentees to fill out this Mentor Map from the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity with themselves in the center so as to create a tangible reminder of their personal and professional support network.
This Core Competency Self-Assessment from the National Postdoctoral Association is a great overview of the skills needed in Science and students and postdocs alike revisit this annually with me to help guide the focus of your training.
