The Kvitko Lab visited Portland, Oregon for this year’s International Congress Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions Conference. \u00a0Both Amelia Lovelace and Dr. Brian Kvitko presented a poster titled “New Approaches to accessing the P. syringae<\/em> transriptome\u00a0in planta<\/em>“. \u00a0This poster had information regarding the two methods, qRT PCR and RNASeq, developed by Amy Smith and Amelia Lovelace respectively. \u00a0Many of the people who visited the poster were interested in using our methods in their future research. \u00a0Our new incoming student, Shuan Stice also joined us for the conference. \u00a0As a resident of Oregon, Shuan was able to show the lab all Portland has to offer.<\/p>\n The conference was an excellent opportunity to network with other labs from around the world and collaborate on future projects. \u00a0The various sessions and discussions gives the attendees a chance to step outside of their comfort zone and learn something new. \u00a0Besides attending topic sessions and poster presentations, the members of the lab enjoyed food tourism including, unique doughnut flavors from Blue Star, bizarre ice cream flavors from Salt and Straw, international flavors of food trucks, flaming coffee, and lets not forget craft beers. \u00a0We are looking forward to attending the next conference in Scotland in 2019!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Kvitko Lab visited Portland, Oregon for this year’s International Congress Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions Conference. \u00a0Both Amelia Lovelace and Dr. Brian Kvitko presented a poster titled “New Approaches to accessing the P. syringae transriptome\u00a0in planta“. \u00a0This poster had information regarding the two methods, qRT PCR and RNASeq, developed by Amy Smith and Amelia Lovelace respectively. “The conference after a long summer break was a wonderful (though sometimes overwhelming)<\/span><\/div>\nexperience. I was able meet new people from other labs, learn from poster sessions, and gain an<\/span><\/div>\nappreciation for the breadth and quality of research being conducted in this field across the globe. I can<\/span><\/div>\nnow aspire to share some of my own research at the next IS-MPMI conference in 2019.
