On December 18th, our first PhD student, Amelia Lovelace, graduated with a PhD in Plant Pathology. She successfully defended her dissertation titled “Genome-wide Bacterial Response to Plant Innate Immunity” on December 13th. The Kvitko lab had a socially distant celebration at The Southern Brewing Company to congratulate Amelia on her accomplishments. Amelia has accepted a post doc position with Dr. Wenbo Ma at The Sainsbury Laboratory in Norwich, UK. She will be working on the citrus greening disease, HLB.

Socially distant send off party at Southern Brewing Company

“I am so grateful for my time here in the Kvitko lab. I came into the lab with very little experience working with bacteria and Brian was very patient during my training. Through his mentorship, I was able to pass down my knowledge to the new members of the lab. I have learned so much and gained a lot of great research experience in the lab. I hope to utilize the skills I gained in my next position at The Sainsbury Laboratory. I am going to miss all of our lab members and I look forward to their continued success.” —- Dr. Amelia Helen Lovelace
