The Kvitko lab attends the Georgia Association of Plant Pathologists meeting at Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa in the mountains of northern GA. The annual GAPP meeting is a great opportunity for the Plant Pathology department locations in Athens, Tifton, and Griffin to come together, socialize and present research.GAPP also provides the department a unique opportunity for recruiting students to join our department. Both Shaun and Amelia have given oral presentations at GAPP as a prospective student.

This year, Shaun participated in the student paper competition where he gave an oral presentation titled “Pantoea ananatis: genetic and biological analysis reveals plasmid localized accessory genes correlated with onion pathogenicity.” Several awards are given out to students during GAPP including the student presentation awards, the Cedric Kuhn Outstanding MS Student Award, and the Kenneth E. Papa Outstanding PhD Student Award. This year the Kuhn award was presented to Amelia Lovelace who was nominated by her peers.
